The
Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1888, is the premier
chamber of commerce in Nigeria. It has a membership of about 2000 and plays a
crucial role in promoting and developing industrial and commercial opportunities
in Nigeria.
The Lagos International Trade Fair
As part of its activities in promoting business in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, the chamber is the host and organiser of the Lagos International Trade Fair, the largest single exhibition in the West African sub-region. The fair has an ever-increasing number of exhibitors and visitors from all over the world. The fair comes up yearly in November and attracts business people, investors and professionals. This makes it an important business forum. The Chamber organises and receives trade missions, which are aimed at promoting trade relations between Nigeria and the respective countries of such visitors.

Other Activities And Functions
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry has a virile research department, comprising seasoned researchers. It serves as the think-tank of the Chamber. The department is equipped with an up-to-date business library. The Chamber also has an information centre which is a veritable data bank for local and international businesses for information on the entire Nigerian business community. It provides links between local and international businesses. The information centre also publishes a monthly business newsletter, Lagos Chamber businessnews, which is an in-depth source of business information. The Chamber also organises quality skill-based courses supported by cognitive training. The responses to these workshops have been so tremendous and highly successful.
